Frequently Asked Questions
Models
  1. I need to populate my scene with hundreds of (X-Model object). They are not exactly low-poly though. What can I do?

If you are using VRay, convert the model to a VRay Proxy object. You will then be able to make hundreds of copies of the model. Mental Ray 3.6 also has a proxy system that can handle many instances of high-poly objects. Maxwell Render also can handle this through its instancing feature. Check your software features to see what solutions are available.

  2. What is the best way for me to organize the textures that come with your models?

We recommend making a separate folder for the X-Models textures and setting a path in your 3D software so it knows where to access the textures.

  3. If I only need one model in the collection, is there a way to just buy that one model?

Yes and No. We are only selling full collections on the DigitalXModels website. We do, however, have individual models for sale on Turbosquid.

  4. Are your models compatible with other packages besides 3dsMax?

Yes. Currently we are offering additional formats- .3ds, .obj, and .fbx. One of these 3 formats should be importable into any other 3D software package. In the future, we will also sell formats that are set up for other rendering packages to help save you the time in setting up materials.

  5. Can you create a custom model for me?

Most likely, yes. Please contact us to discuss your needs and we will put together a cost estimate for you.

  6. What formats are your models in?

Our models are currently being supplied in .max, .3ds, .obj, and .fbx formats. In the future we will supply the models in other native formats.

  7. Why don't my renderings look like the images in the .pdf?

We've used 3dsMax 9 and VRay 1.5 to produce the images in the .pdfs. If you are using this software combo, and you render the .max scene as you downloaded it, your rendering should look just like the .pdf. If you are using any other software combo, most likely your images will look different. You will probably have to create materials that work best in your software. The .fbx files preserve most of the material info. The .3ds and .obj formats will require extra work in setting up new materials since those formats don't export all the same information that a .max file stores. All the mapping coordinates will be preserved though. As time goes on, we will be adding additional formats native to Maya, Lightwave, etc.

  1. Can I get my collection on a disc?
